POWarts Book Club: Art Thinking by Amy Whitaker
Join us for the inaugural meeting of the POWarts Book Club, presented by POWarts. Over wine and snacks, participate in a discussion with author and former POWarts President Amy Whitaker about her new book Art Thinking: How to Carve Out Creative Space in a World of Schedules, Budgets, and Bosses. Art Thinking outlines a framework that combines the mindset of art with the tools of business, and features stories of artists and creative workers across both fields. She explores seven specific approaches, which include taking a step back to see the big picture, finding creative collaborators, structuring skillful risks, and much more.
Purchase your copy and start reading now! The evening’s discussion will focus on Chapter 3: To the Lighthouse, about finding inspiration from big questions that drive you forward into unknown territory rather than specific smaller goals you can see in advance.
Amy Whitaker is a writer, artist, and teacher working at the intersection of creativity, business, and everyday life. She holds an MBA and MFA, and is currently on faculty at New York University’s Steinhardt School. From 2013 to 2016, Amy served as the President of POWarts.
POWarts, the Professional Organization for Women in the Arts, was founded in 2008 to champion the professional lives of women in the art world. By offering an active calendar of events, panel discussions, and mentoring opportunities, POWarts helps women learn, connect, and build their careers. Here at POWarts, we believe that generosity and leadership can, and should, go hand in hand. Our programming stems from the knowledge that art and business are not separate; rather, understanding business is vital to creating spaces for art, and women, to thrive.
This event is free for POWarts members and non-members, but please RSVP here.
