Beauties: As Seen By Others / And Then What Is, Project Director- Leslie Arlette Boyce

June 23, 2016 - June 26, 2016

Due to unforeseen circumstances this weekend's performances have been cancelled.  Thank you to Leslie Arlete Boyce and the extremely talented cast of Beauties for your extraordinary performances!

A living conversation about multiculturalism, Beauties: As Seen By Others/And Then What Is, is a interdisciplinary dance theater and new media performance event, offering an uncommon combination of live dance, an aerialist, and photographic composites, accompanied by original music commissioned for this project.  This event features world reknown aerialist Benn Mendoza and invited guest performers as follows:  Rod Williams, Composer; Yun-Tzu Chang; Yuki Fukui; Britanny Grier; Safi Harriott; Sarah McCaffery; Benn Mendoza; Mersiha Mesihovic; and Florence Nasar.

Collaborating artists will come together from different parts of the world to reveal personal and true stories of inclusion, exclusion, rejection, violence, or the promise of more, or the certainty of less based on appearance, ethnicity, and assumed belief systems.  Derived from the words choreography and photography, the new media—CHOREOTOGRAPHY®/CTM that has been developed by project director Leslie-Arlette Boyce will accompany performances, with an original score by composer Rod Williams.

Given the current global climate regarding ethnicity and suppositions regarding race, the political urgency of this production is clearer daily. These newly created performances of Beauties: As Seen By Others/And Then What Is, will be accompanied by moderated post work in progress performance discussions that focus on cultural awareness and the value of edifying traditions.

Performances:  Thursday, June 23rd, 7:30pm / Friday, June 24th, 7:30pm
