Welcome to Call Me Ishmael: a phone number, an answering machine, a website, and an invitation to “readers around the world to tell us stories about the books they love.” The popular website Call Me Ishmael - which invites book-lovers to dial a phone number and leave voicemails about a book that is important to them - has just expanded from the internet into the real world.

Conceptual Poetry: Practice, Production, and Reception

On February 19, Pen and Brush welcomes Sarah Madges of Handwritten as the moderator of a panel devoted to conceptual poetry: a genre that focuses on the concept of the poem and the process of writing rather than the outcome itself. Often unorthodox in format and incorporating appropriation of pre-existing texts, conceptual poetry challenges the way we think about poetry, art, and the poet herself.

Pen and Brush in Conversation: Kate Angus and Lauren Amalia Redding

October 2015 marked the launch of Pen and Brush’s publishing imprint, when we released two ebooks, a short story, and a collection of debut poetry by writer and artist Lauren Amalia Redding. Join us for an evening of conversation between Lauren Redding, a working writer/artist, and Kate Angus, a working editor/teacher who curated the work for Pen and Brush, as they discuss their experience making a career as women in the arts.
