Reading: Voices Beyond Bondage

Pen and Brush welcomes Erika DeSimone and Fidel Louis for a special presentation from their new book, Voices Beyond Bondage: An Anthology of Verse by African Americans of the 19th Century. This collection includes 150 poems taken exclusively from America’s early black-owned newspapers, and celebrates a literary movement that until now has been ignored in American history. In honor of National Poetry Month and Pen and Brush's mission to promote literature by women, the reading will highlight poems by women featured in the book.

Senie, Director of the M.A. Program in Art History and Art Museum Studies at City College, City University of New York, for a talk entitled "Memorials to Shattered Myths: Remembering Oklahoma City and Columbine." Conceptual Poetry: Practice, Production, and Reception

On February 19, Pen and Brush welcomes Sarah Madges of Handwritten as the moderator of a panel devoted to conceptual poetry: a genre that focuses on the concept of the poem and the process of writing rather than the outcome itself. Opening of New Facilities October 8th, 5:30-8:30pm

Celebrating 121 years with the acquisition of new space, our new facility has undergone a complete renovation. When we open our 5,500 square foot space on October 8th we will present exceptional work by women to collectors, curators, editors, agents, publishers, and the public.
