Body Image
Open to all Women Artists

 
An exploration of the female and male forms and their representation
in art, media, culture...and in our own minds and imaginations.
 
 
Juried by Michele Kort, Senior Editor of Ms. Magazine
Michele Kort is a longtime Los Angeles journalist and author, currently the senior editor of Ms. magazine and co-editor of the Ms. Blog. She has written three books, including the biography Soul Picnic: the Music and Passion of Laura Nyro (Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin's Press, 2002). She also has a background in art history and nonprofit arts management (B.A. and M.B.A. from UCLA), doing an internship at the Whitney Museum in New York and administering two nonprofit art centers in Los Angeles early in her career.
 
Body Image is a two-part event, comprising an online gallery accessible through our website, and a physical gallery in our Manhattan building at 16 E. 10th St. Each gallery will exhibit distinct work.

 
Accepted Media: Visual Art (all media), Literary Works, and Short Film
Exhibition Dates: November 11 - December 5
Entry Deadline: October 4th
Artists' Reception: November 11th
Accepted authors are invited to read their works at The Pen and Brush
on November 18th and December 5th. An additional day of readings may be added.
 
Non- Refundable Entry Fees

Member $35 for up to 3 pieces $25 for up to 3 pieces $50 for up to 6 pieces**

*Artists who are submitting work for both the online and the gallery exhibits
must enter separate work for each. **3 for gallery, 3 for online

Additional Notes on Short Films
Performing arts submissions may be sound and/or visual recordings.
Artists may submit a recording of a performance, or the recording itself may be the piece of art.
 
Additional Notes on Literary Works
Literary works will be considered for both the physical and the online exhibits.
Prose (fiction and nonfiction) and Poetry
1000 word maximum for each piece.
In the physical exhibit, paper copies of the literary works will be displayed for visitors to read. In addition, the authors will have the option to record themselves reading the work; the recordings will also be made available to gallery visitors.
 
The Pen and Brush will only use email to notify artists
of the acceptance or rejection of their work.
 
All performing, film, and video submissions must be available for publication, distribution, and production.
 
All visual artwork (2 dimensional and 3 dimensional) must be for sale.
Sales are made to The Pen and Brush, Inc., which takes a 25% commission and forwards the balance of 75% to the artist. Sales tax will be collected and remitted on all sales.
